The Stone Soup Symphony is a non-profit community orchestra based in Hackettstown, NJ. We are a full sized orchestra with strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Our mission is to make classical and symphonic music accessible to everyone in our community.

  • Accessible to the public, granting the opportunity to come and hear this music with free concerts.
  • Accessible to musicians, granting the opportunity to play in a full symphony orchestra, where few local opportunities exist.

Our members are all ages from High School through retirees, and all levels from students to professionals. For High School students, we offer the George Akehurst memorial Scholarship.

We do NOT audition for membership, but we DO request a reasonable proficiency on your instrument.
The Stone Soup Symphony operates more like a family than a business. Because of this, seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • We are ALWAYS recruiting strings. The minimum requirement for violin, viola, cello, and bass is broadly stated as “be comfortable in 3rd position or better”
  • There is currently a waiting list for our woodwind section.
  • We currently need French Horns to fill out our brass section.
  • Percussion is somewhat seasonal and recruited as needed.

We rehearse every Wednesday evening from 7:30 until 9pm at the Hackettstown First Presbyterian Chapel, 291 Main Street, Hackettstown NJ.
